On April 20, 2026, a working meeting took place between Associate Professors of the Department of Environmental Monitoring and Nature Reserve Management Alina Grechko and Svitlana Burchenko and Hanna V. Titenko, Director of the Karazin Institute of Environmental Sciences, Green Energy and Sustainable Development.
The main goal of the event was to present the concept of the specialized living lab "Living Lab 'Problems of Urban Landscapes'" and to agree on the technical parameters of the pilot site. The researchers familiarized the Director with the scientific and methodological justification for establishing the lab within the campus of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
A unique concept of an adaptive green-blue infrastructure (GBI) micro-network was presented, combining rain gardens, infiltration trenches, regenerative lawns, and biodiversity islands.
Currently, the process of agreeing on the technical selection of the site with the institute's administration is underway, with the aim of further informing the university leadership and coordinating the deployment of the living lab. The key task is to launch the pilot site, which will become an open testing ground for long-term monitoring, validation of nature-based solutions, and engagement of students and the community in restoring the urban environment in the context of a frontline city.
